About Community Foundations
Community foundations have been active in the U.S. since 1914. The first community foundation was established in Cleveland, Ohio.
Now there are more than 650 community foundations in the United States, with community foundations in every state. Cumulatively, community foundations administer more than $30 billion in assets.
Community foundations offer charitable people and organizations many services, benefits and tax advantages.
Each community foundation is a non-profit, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) entity created to serve people and organizations in a certain community or area. Each community foundation plays a key role in addressing community needs, now and far in the future.
Community foundations provide effective and highly personal approaches to charitable giving for current gifts or for transfers through will or trust.
Community foundations build endowments to provide lasting legacies and ongoing financial support to worthy causes.
